Charles Sturt University launches new Melbourne Campus with vibrant celebration of culture and community
Australia’s premier regional university, Charles Sturt University was proud to officially launch its Melbourne campus on Thursday 3 April 2025.
Charles Sturt has had a long and distinguished history of education in Melbourne with over 30,000 international and domestic alumni.
The new campus, located at 222 Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD, represents the next chapter in Charles Sturt’s Melbourne presence, and was officially opened by Charles Sturt University Vice Chancellor Professor Renée Leon on Thursday afternoon.
Professor Leon was joined by Navitas CEO Scott Jones as well as Charles Sturt students, agents, industry representatives and key partners at the ceremony.
Opening with a Welcome to Country and didgeridoo performance, the campus launch also included a traditional Chinese blessing to mark a prosperous beginning, in recognition of the campus’ vibrant cultural location in the heart of Melbourne’s Chinatown, and the rich diversity of the international student cohort, many of whom come from across Asia.

Charles Sturt Vice-Chancellor, Professor Renée Leon said, “We hope our students will be pleased with Charles Sturt University Melbourne’s location in the heart of Melbourne’s Chinatown. We know they will love learning in this culturally rich hub, located in one of the world’s most vibrant cities, which has been rated the best in Australia for students.”
“The campus will be accessible to both international and domestic students setting them up for success, with an initial focus on degrees in Information Technology, Business and Accounting, and additional courses to be added over coming years.
“The Melbourne campus will not only provide the very highest quality of education to both domestic and international students but will also directly support regional Australia. Revenue generated from the campus will be invested in the University’s regional education delivery, including in areas linked to regional jobs and critical skills needs.”
Charles Sturt University Sydney, based in North Sydney, has received a huge volume of interest from students, and Melbourne is on track to follow suit with the first cohort of student having commenced in early March 2025.
Professor Leon said Charles Sturt is committed to fostering strong graduate outcomes and regional excellence.
“We are so excited to be welcoming students to Charles Sturt University Melbourne, and providing them, and the wider community, with the opportunity to create positive outcomes for the future.”
